At around 9am Thursday morning, we set out for the first leg of our journey to California to attend the Cal-Earth and Midwest Permaculture workshop. About nine hundred miles, twelve hours of driving (give or take), three states and two time zones later...we finally stopped for the night in Holbrook, Arizona.
Once we had a very short, but well needed night's rest, we started the last leg of our journey to California. Since we were running ahead of schedule, we decided to make an unscheduled stop at Meteor Crater, also known as Barringer Crater, near Winslow, Arizona.
"Meteor Crater lies at an elevation of about 1,740 m (5,710 ft) above sea level. It is about 1,200 m (3,900 ft) in diameter, some 170 m deep (570 ft), and is surrounded by a rim that rises 45 m (148 ft) above the surrounding plains. The center of the crater is filled with 210–240 m (690–790 ft) of rubble lying above crater bedrock."[ It was designated a National Natural Landmark in November 1967 and is the largest impact crater yet discovered in the United States. -Courtesy of Wikipedia
